1 A hardy, erect or climbing shrub (genus Rosa) grown in many varieties, with rod-like, prickly stems. In cultivation the stamens are transformed into petals and the flowers become double. It is the national flower of England and the State flower of New York, North Dakota, and Iowa.
2. The flower, having 5, or rarely 4, sepals.
3. Any one of various other plants or flowers having some real or fancied likeness to the true rose.
4. A light pinkish red, like the color of many roses.
5. An ornamental knot, as of ribbon or lace; a rosette.
